Trekking – Kit List

Unless we specify otherwise, we use manned refuges for all of our hut to hut treks in the Pyrenees. This means you don’t have to carry cooking or camping gear for these treks.

We’ve put together a kit list of essential gear but it is by no means comprehensive. If you are joining us for a trek, and you are in doubt about what to bring, please contact us.

Clothing/footwear

  • Sturdy walking boots
  • Walking socks
  • Medium (35-45 litre) rucksack
  • Storage for 2 litres of water (a plastic water bottle is fine)
  • Comfortable walking shorts and trousers T-shirts/base layer
  • Warm jumper or fleece
  • Lightweight, good quality, waterproof jacket
  • Lightweight, good quality, waterproof trousers
  • Sun hat/peaked cap
  • Sunglasses
  • Swimming costume + small trek towel
  • Hat and gloves
  • Toilet paper

Other useful items

  • Waterproof rucksack liner
  • Sheet sleeping bag liner – essential for refuges
  • Sun block and lip balm (minimum factor 25)
  • Personal first aid kit (plasters, blister kit, pain killers)
  • Walking poles, if you usually use them
  • Water purification tablets (for use as a last resort only)
  • Ziplock bags (always useful for putting stuff in!)
  • Small bottle of multi-purpose liquid trekking soap (for washing clothes and yourself!)
  • Mosquito repellent
  • Head torch

Optional items

  • Camera
  • Maps (your guide will have maps for the whole trek anyway)
  • Snacks – cereal bars, dried fruit/nuts, chocolate etc.
  • Paper back book (lightweight!)
