Deep in Spanish gorges or tumbling along rocky streambeds, its rivers are the perfect place to experience a canyoning adventure, and the thrills of white water rafting and kayaking. The handy ski-lifts, and snaking col-roads also make this area ideal for mountain biking and paragliding, or just exploring high ridges at an easier pace. WINTER HOLIDAYS

Alpine skiing in Bareges and La Mongie

Skiing in the Tourmalet resort - the largest ski area in the French Pyrenees with over 100km of pistes. Only five minutes ride to the lifts on the free ski bus, which departs regularly from just outside the Mountainbug chalet. Ski home to the village on a pretty green run beside the river.

Ski Mountaineering/Ski touring

Escape the pistes and discover the real mountains. Introductory training courses through to hut-to-hut treks in the wildest areas of the Pyrenees. Instruction and leading with qualified High Mountain Guides.

Snowshoeing

Exploring the Winter wonderland without skis. Just a few minutes walk from the ski resorts, you can find yourself deep in the untouched wilderness of the high mountains, following the tracks of chamois, hare and ermine.

Iceclimbing

General madness in and around Gavarnie. Mountain guides are available for instruction and leading.
